Royal Mail Group counts on Paragon
Could just one routing and scheduling system handle distribution operations as diverse and demanding as Parcelforce Worldwide, the Royal Mail and the network of Post Office branches? Keen to support these key brands, operating everywhere from remote rural regions to dense urban areas, with flexible software capable of delivering daily dependability, Royal Mail set the challenge - and Paragon rose to it. Awarded preferred supplier status, and a Royal Mail contract to supply truck routing and scheduling software, the system is already helping Parcelforce Worldwide, a leading provider of time-guaranteed and express parcel deliveries, improve the efficiency of its operation.
Used initially to update the regular delivery and pickup routes of three Parcelforce Worldwide DCs, Paragon enabled one DCs routes, consisting of 4,000 individual deliveries, to be reviewed in just one day - a huge time saving for a task that previously took 4-6 weeks. One of the original attractions of the system, its street level routing capability, is also proving itself on the ground, producing realistic, restriction-aware routes for planners and clear map displays for drivers. Royal Mail is now gearing up to extend its fixed route rationalization process to Parcelforce Worldwide's national network, implementing 13 Paragon systems which will provide regular plans for over 2,000 trucks operating across 51 DCs.
"We chose Paragon not only because the software has the flexibility to handle the more challenging aspects of our parcels, mail and cash-handling operations," explains Royal Mail Systems Manager Bill Haken, "but also because it was clear that they have the resources to support us properly."
